Ačkoliv by člověk selským rozumem usoudil, že něco tak konstantního a relativně neměnného, jako jsou světové veletoky, bude přesně změřeno, opak je pravdou. Téměř v každém prameni najdeme různé délky světových veletoků a tím pádem i pořadí. Jednak řeky nejsou ani zdaleka přesně změřeny a zmapovány, a za druhé se pak zeměpisci mezi sebou přou, které vymezení je správné. Proto se v řadě pramenů můžete dočíst, že nejdelší řekou je Nil a ne Amazonka (tak je tomu například i v originální verzi Wikipedie, zatímco v české verzi, ze které jsou údaje v tabulce, je první Amazonas!). Tyto prameny pak udávají u Amazonky délku kolem 6400 kilometrů. Dříve se totiž za hlavní zdrojnici Amazonky považoval Marañon a ne Ucayali. Jenže pak se zjistilo, že Ucayali je se svou delší zdrojnicí Apurímac mnohem delší než Marañon. Přesto někteří zeměpisci stále trvají na starém údaji. Což moc dobře nechápu, protože k Nilu se také započítává Kagera. Ta se vlévá do Viktoriina jezera a teprve řeka z Viktoriina jezera vytékající se jmenuje Bílý Nil. Název Nil pak nese tento tok až od súdánského Chartúmu, kde se spojuje s kratším, avšak vodnatějším Modrým Nilem.
